Small team, big problems

Box Springs Mutual Water serves the Edgemont area of Moreno Valley, California with just six employees. Office Manager Karen Collins had built a manual filing system on the side just to compensate for what their old platform couldn't do. The legacy software was built on an unsupported programming language, required deep system knowledge to navigate, and could only store current owner and tenant data—historical records were gone permanently once someone moved.

Billing errors were costing tens of thousands, and manual data synchronization between the billing system and the customer portal was consuming more than 20 hours every month.

Making the switch—and getting it right

Box Springs became Current's first live customer in March 2024. The implementation brought automated billing that surfaces exceptions for human review before anything posts, an integrated customer portal that eliminated the manual synchronization entirely, and a delinquency management dashboard that gives the team a clear view of late accounts.

Karen came from Eastern Municipal Water District—a 600-employee utility—and knew what good software looked like. A new team member who joined in January 2026 had no utility billing background at all. She was navigating the platform independently within days.
